One of the main arguments made in favor of the Oceanside Harbor was, at the time (during the 1960’s) the closest harbor ports were between San Diego and Newport. Erwin Sklar wanted to make it easier for boaters, travelers, and vacationers to have a port in between the distance of San Diego and Newport. Here are a few Google map perspectives on the distance between Oceanside and both San Diego and New Port. Included are also two maps archived from the Oceanside Library which detail land ownership in the 1980’s and Oceanside Harbor on the map.
