Closing Thoughts

Closing Thoughts – The Oceanside Harbor, the “Gem of the Pacific Coast”

There are many local historical treasures that are yet to be explored. Upon my venture on seeking the history of the Oceanside Harbor I discovered the history of an individual, Erwin Sklar, who made a difference in a community for a lifetime to come. Sklar’s legacy lives on in those who were touched by his kindness and perseverance in everything he pursued which is evident among local interviews and newspaper articles. For future historians seeking to learn more about the history of the Oceanside Harbor, there are many avenues to embark upon. Some topics of interest pertaining to the history of the Oceanside Harbor could be; the history of the Oceanside Harbor District, personal histories of individuals who were involved with the implementation of the Oceanside Harbor, and further research on the history of Camp Pendleton in connection with the harbor. Historian Kristi Hawthorne of the Oceanside Historical Society was instrumental in connecting me with resources toward my study on the Oceanside Harbor history. The Oceanside Historical Society is open to anyone seeking to learn more about the history of the city of Oceanside.

“May you enjoy many clear sailing days in California’s newest small craft harbor, the “Gem of the Pacific Coast” — we think its a real jewel. You will find Oceanside’s hospitality awaiting you here.” [31] Erwin Sklar…
