This was a piece of parachute preserved by WWII veteran Robert Ranger. There is a small hole in the parachute that is believed by the family to be a bullet hole caused by a tracer bullet when Ranger was parachuting in Normandy.

Private Jose Fernandez served in the U.S. Army during WWII. He was born in 1916 in Spain and migrated to the United States where he became a citizen. He enlisted on October 10, 1941 at Fort Dix, several weeks before the attack on Pearl Harbor.
